Wind claim · Payson, Utah

Partially approved. Then we proved the shingle was discontinued.

The first estimate only covered part of this steep Payson roof. A lab test showed the original shingle wasn't made anymore, so patching it couldn't match. Ten days later the whole roof was approved.

The timeline

From the first look to the last nail

Every date below is from our job file. This is what “we handle the insurance” actually looks like.

  1. Apr 14

    Free inspection

Creased and lifted shingles on multiple slopes of a 7/12 roof.

A creased shingle with chalk marks
Wind creases marked in chalk during the inspection.
  2. Apr 15day 1

    Claim filed

We filed with the homeowner and scheduled the adjuster.

  3. Apr 20day 6

Only part of the roof approved

The first estimate covered some slopes and left the rest. Patching would have meant new shingles next to old ones that don't match.

  4. Apr 24day 10

    Shingle sent to a lab

We pulled a shingle sample and sent it to ITEL, an independent lab that checks whether a shingle is still manufactured.

  5. Apr 29day 15

    Lab result: discontinued

ITEL confirmed the shingle is no longer made. We sent the result to the adjuster the same day.

  6. Apr 30day 16

    Full roof approved

The adjuster approved the whole roof.

  7. May 7day 23

    Colors picked

Granite Black shingles, white drip edge, black accessories.

  8. May 16day 32

    Install

    Tear-off, new underlayment, new shingles.

    New decking with mountains behind
    Decking exposed on install day.
  9. May 19day 35

    Supplement for four missed items

Including a hip and ridge quantity the first estimate had short. The adjuster approved the updated scope the next day.

  10. Jun 3day 50

    Paid and closed

Done in seven weeks from the first knock.

Finished black architectural roof with ridge cap along the ridge
After: Granite Black shingles with new ridge cap, same view as before.
